GS-Rs are the same price as DC5 Type-Ss, and Type-Rs are in the $10ks. For a 20 year old Honda. I want another one, but I’d settle for an RSX for the same price.

They’re also thief magnets.

Legendary status, somewhat rare, and one of the best handling FWD cars ever made, not to mention one of the best handling cars ever made. It makes sense that they’re going for that much money.

I know all that, I had a GS-R I should have never gotten rid of. I guess the real question is why has no one been able to achieve in the last 20 years what they did so long ago?

If I bought an ITR, I’d spend thousands of dollars on a top-of-the-line anti-theft system.

Well, there are like 20 left that haven’t been heavily abused by kids with more ambition than taste.

I would have a cardog. Literally it would just be a rotweiller that lives in the car and scares intruders.

Chevrolet did it with the Cobalt SS, and I think Ford has also done it with the Focus ST, as well as VW with the GTI. Each is/was a sub-$30,000 compact FWD car with an emphasis on handling and performance, based on a less expensive model in the marque’s lineup.
You could even argue that the Integra Type-R has been brought back by other brands, albeit in a dissimilar package that achieved the same results. The Integra Type-R was a genuine performance car from Honda that had chassis revisions, weight savings on glazing and body parts, and a hot engine, not just a base model with a more powerful engine and some bolt on parts. I think the only cars that have come close are the Focus RS, Evo, and STi, only because they are at the same price point and feature many of the same performance enhancements that you got with the Integra Type-R.
I think the biggest point about the Integra was that it’s a classic performance coupe. You can’t say that about a Golf or Focus or Cobalt, as they were always inexpensive compact cars for everyday commuters. The Integra was always something special before the GS-R and Type-R cars were made.
Honda and Toyota used to make such cool cars, I wish I knew why they stopped making great cars like the MR2 and S2000, etc. If Nissan still makes the Z and pony cars are selling like hot cakes, why can Honda and Toyota bring back some of the magic with their own cars?

I'm mildly surprised how hard DC5 prices have crashed in the past year or so.

The Integra (and other Hondas of that era) are light weight with big windows, low cowl height, double wishbones, equal-length half shafts, and slick shifters. Aside from the shifter, nobody mass-produces fwd platforms with that kind of stuff anymore. The RSX-S is nice, and the K20 is a much better motor than the B18, but it’s got the more modern high cowl/small window vibe, and McPherson struts in front.

Why invest in a security system, when you can have a big black guy named Ben?

I still have this one on standby for whenever I’m ready to buy.

The DC2 Type-R is a genuine masterpiece. It’s worth it at twice the price!

I think you can thank the 06-11 Si for that. Its an updated version of the same powertrain with the addition of an LSD that was already dirt cheap to begin with. Plus it doesn’t have the Integra name. It sounds silly but that matters to people.

Oh, for sure. Most of the DC5 owners I knew swapped out the RSX badges for Honda and/or Integra badges, and I can’t say I blame them. 8th gen Si prices are also falling, with the occasional salvage/rebuilt title car under $5k. I just didn’t like how numb it felt compared to the 90s Hondas.
I hate to keep banging the same drum, but I’m looking to import a 4th gen Prelude from Japan in the next few years. They aren’t quite as good as the DC2 (certainly not the R, at least), but the ones I see at auction sites are jaw-droppingly cheap for what they are. They're unloved in Japan because their engine size and width put them into a higher tax bracket than the contemporary Civics and Integras, but they still handle well. Just won't be easy finding one with an LSD and no sunroof.

Sorry dude. Looks as much like an Accord today as it did then :\
